Antique Art Nouveau Charm. This is a beautiful and unusual opening book charm depicting “Der Trompeter von Sakkingen” (The Trumpeter of Sackingen). The front of the charm shows the trumpter from an epic poem that describes a love story. The story is authored by Joseph Victor von Scheffel, and is one of the most read books in German. The poem is so well-known and loved that the town of Sackingen has become known also as “Trumpeter Town”. In the story the trumpeter Werner loves Maria, the daughter of the Baron, but the father and mother want her to marry the cowardly Damian. Werner proves himself a hero and is opportunely discovered to be of noble birth, so all ends happily. (The first two photos are most accurate in terms of the tarnish). The inside of this book has been gilded, so appears to have a gold wash and is heavily tarnished. It is sloppily hand engraved, appears to be a mans name, looks like Erich Pra… It could easily be engraved further if desired. The page is stamped 800 on the bottom left, and DEP on the bottom right. The hinge and clasp work well and the book holds closed. It is quite tarnished, but otherwise in lovely condition. A very sweet and romantic charm! I love all the hidden meaning behind the image of the trumpeter on the front. Any questions please ask! I’m more than happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos.
